Lost in Kainuu Adventure offers a wide range of races of different lenghts depending on your condition and adventure experience.

Event Centre

In 2025, Lost in Kainuu Adventure will take place amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Hyrynsalmi and Ukkohalla. The competition centre is located at Hotel Ukkohalla, Ukkohallantie 20, 89400 Hyrynsalmi.

Adventure races

You can choose from a wide range of races with teams of different sizes

You can see the series of Lost in Kainuu Adventure below. In all categories, the top three teams will be rewarded.

Extremely Lost 24 h

Duration: 24 hours, continuous adventure
Primary discipline: mountain bike and/or fatbike, etc. (e-bikes are not allowed)
Total duration of the adventure with the top team: 24 hours
Maximum time available for the adventure: 32,5 hours
Length: 225-235 km
Team: 3 persons/team
Series: men, women, mixed (at least one woman or man in the team)
Competition days: Friday-Saturday
Maximum number of teams: 50 teams

Lost 16-18 h

Duration: 16-18 hours, mandatory overnight accommodation break
Primary discipline: mountain bike and/or fatbike, etc. (e-bikes are not allowed)
Total duration of the adventure with the top team: 15 hours
Maximum time available for the adventure: 24,5 hours
Mandatory overnight accommodation break in the competition centre’s maintenance and camping area
Length: 175 km
Team: 2 persons/team
Series: men, women, mixed (at least one women or men)
Competition days: Friday-Saturday
Maximum number of teams: 100 teams

Almost Lost 6-8 h

Duration: 6-8 hours day adventure
Primary discipline: mountain bike and/or fatbike, etc. (e-bikes are not allowed)
Total duration of the adventure with the top team: 6 hours
Maximum adventure time: 10,5 hours
Length: 75 km
Team: 2 persons/team
Series: General ( prizes are awarded to the top 3 teams in the general category; results are published by category men, women and mixed)
Competition days: Saturday
Maximum number of teams: 100 teams

Casually Lost 3-4 h

Duration: 3-4 hours, day adventure
Primary discipline: mountain bike and/or fatbike, etc. (e-bikes are not allowed)
Total duration of the adventure with the top team: 3 hours
Maximum adventure time: 10,5 hours
Length: 40 km
Team: 2-5 persons/team
Series: general
Competition days: Saturday
Maximum number of teams: 50 teams

Casually Charged 3-4 h, e-bike series

Duration: 3-4 hours, day adventure
Primary discipline: E-bike (the team may also include non-electric bikes)
Total duration of the adventure with the top team: 3 hours
Maximum adventure time: 10,5 hours
Length: 40 km

Mandatory and recommended equipment by races

Each team in the competition will bring the competition equipment mentioned below. The special equipment needed for the quests comes on behalf of the organizer. Competition equipment must be carried throughout the competition, unless otherwise specified by the organizer. The organizer may carry out an equipment inspection during the competition. If deficiencies are found during the inspection, the team may be disqualified or given a time penalty of at least 30 minutes.

The route selection is free, but at least there are some rules

Read the competition instructions and rules of lost in Kainuu Adventure will go without surprises.

The rules and race instructions for the year 2025 adventure has been published on 28th May 2025. Please note that the race instructions and rules will be updated as necessary until the beginning of the adventure.

The experienced race master of lost in Kainuu Adventure knows what a proper adventure is made of. There are things worth noting about the route every year, which you should familiarize yourself with in advance from the track master’s statement.

Championships

Lost in kainuu is an adventure for championships

In Lost in Kainuu Adventure, competitors will battle for the Finnish Championship titles in the Adventure 1 series. The championship race takes place in the 24-hour category, where all teams compete against each other. Read more about the Adventure 1 series here.

Lost in Kainuu Adventure also hosts the Finnish Student Championship medals competition. Medals are awarded in the competitive series: Extremely Lost and Lost categories (women, men, and mixed teams). Competitive teams consist of three members in the Extremely Lost category and two members in the Lost category.

In the recreational series, teams compete with two members in the Almost Lost category or with 2–5 members in the Casually Lost or Casually Charged categories. The recreational series does not award medals, but small product prizes are given instead.

Teams participating in the Finnish Student Championship competition will receive a discount on the entry fee: €30 in the Extremely Lost category, €20 in the Lost category, and €10 in the Almost Lost, Casually Lost and Casually Charged categories. All team members must have a valid student ID during the competition. Student IDs will be checked on-site.

Mountain Bike, Fatbike & E-Bike Rentals

The organizer offers a limited number of mountain bikes, fatbikes, and e-bikes for rent.

Mountain bikes are suitable for all our adventure race categories.

Fatbikes are recommended especially for the Almost Lost and Casually Lost categories, where the emphasis is more on the adventure experience than speed.

E-bikes are only allowed in the Casually Charged (3–4 h) category.

Rented bikes are available to participants starting at 15:00 on the day before their category’s mass start: For Extremely Lost and Lost categories on Thursday at 15:00. For Almost Lost, Casually Lost, and Casually Charged categories on Friday at 15:00.

Rented bikes must be returned immediately after finishing your adventure, but no later than Saturday at 19:00. Before returning, bikes must be washed at the bike wash station located at the race centre.

Bike rentals will open on June 2, 2025 via the Lost In Kainuu registration service. You can access the bike rental section under “PYÖRÄVUOKRAUS” in the registration system. Payment is made immediately upon reservation, at which point your rental is confirmed and binding.

NOTE: Bike rental is a paid additional service, and unfortunately, we are unable to refund rental payments in case of event cancellation or personal withdrawal, as bikes must be reserved in advance. The customer and organizer may try to transfer the rental to another person. If a new user is not found, the rental fee cannot be refunded.

Map Holder Rental:

Through our partner, karttatelineet.com, we have secured 25 map holders for rental to participants of our event.

The map holders are the Autopilot One model, suitable for handlebars with a thickness of 25.4 mm, 31.8 mm, or 35.0 mm.

Rental reservations are accepted until August 25 at 11:59 PM on a first-come, first-served basis at jukka.liuha@rastiviikko.fi. The reservation email must include the following information:

In the message:

  • Renter’s name
  • Team name
  • Handlebar thickness: 25.4 mm, 31.8 mm, or 35.0 mm

The rental price is €25.00.

Rentals received by Monday, August 25, will be invoiced immediately after the order with a 7-day payment term. 

NOTE! The reservation is binding, as we pre-order the reserved map holders. If a participant or team cancels their participation in the adventure, we will still need to charge the map holder rental fee.
